Some moments in early childhood education just stick with you—small moments that shift your perspective in unexpected ways.

For me, it happened while reading One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish by Dr. Seuss. As I recited the familiar rhymes, a child looked up and asked, “But what about the green fish?”

At the time, it seemed like such a simple question. But it lingered.

In a world that loves neat categories—red or blue, right or wrong, this way or that—this child reminded me that there’s always something beyond what’s written. Something we might be overlooking.

The Greenfish Chronicles first took shape when I was a teacher—an idea I played with but set aside. The timing wasn’t right. But now, as a director, I see firsthand the daily struggles and triumphs of others in leadership. I know how isolating this job can feel sometimes. And I know that sharing our voices, experiences, and lessons learned can make a real difference.

So, here we are. This blog is a fresh start—an opportunity to share insights, strategies, and real stories that help childcare leaders feel seen, supported, and empowered.

What You’ll Find Here

Running a childcare center isn’t just about policies, procedures, and compliance. It’s about people—the teachers, children, families, and communities we serve. It’s about striking that impossible balance between running smooth operations and creating a warm, high-quality learning environment.

Here, we talk about it all:

🟢 Leadership Strategies – Managing staff, handling tough conversations, and confidently leading.
🟢 ECE Business & Operations – Budgeting, enrollment growth, and efficiency hacks for directors.
🟢 Staff Support & Retention – Keeping educators engaged, motivated, and here for the long haul.
🟢 Curriculum & Classroom Innovation – Ways to enhance learning experiences and maintain high-quality programs.
🟢 The Real Stuff – The challenges we don’t always talk about—burnout, overwhelm, and those “what now?” moments.
